And you think you have a lousy job?

Deriving dignity from honest labor may be equally important to the salary you receive from doing it.

If you had to turn up to work next Monday and spend the day sniffing armpits you might well say "Forget the dignity. There is none. Double my wages!"

I always tip my garbage men at Christmas and, this year, brought them cigars back from Cuba. It is my way of saying "Thanks for doing a job that I wouldn't want to do."

It also follows a scriptural injunction to give honour to whom honour is due.

We all meet people everyday who do jobs that make us cringe.

Why not show them some appreciation; at least they are working and not drawing welfare.

When the job gets complicated!

At times the task that confronts us seems overwhelming. Where do we start and when will it end?

Further more, is our contribution really influencing anything or anybody?

Don't despair.

Consider today's photo. Such thoughts may be going through the mind of this telephone repair man.

In the Bible the disciples were faced with an overwhelming challenge, how to feed five thousand hungry people.

The problem was solved when they handed their meagre five loaves and two fishes to Jesus.

Suddenly A MIRACLE. From the blessing of God everyone was fed and there were left overs as well.

It hadn't been a such bad day at work after all.

O the joy of human fellowship in the work place.

O the joy of human companionship, more especially as we co-operate together as a team.

But, observe from the photo; nobody is talking to each other.
Everybody in on auto-pilot.

A modern example of the de-humanising effect of the digital age.

I bet nobody has a name either. This group will classified into work-units with S.I.N. numbers.

Arn't you glad that God knows your name and calls you by it?
And, yes, he knows your number. Jesus said "Even the hairs of your head are numbered."

Dwell on that thought today. It will be a great comfort to you.

"You there # 23, second row, third from the end. Your wife has called. Pick up some burgers on the way home. It's BBQ tonight!"

This week in photos. Joy in the work place.

Since we spend much of our life at work, our equation of happiness involves not only what we do but also who we do it with.

If you are part of a good team at your place of work, be thankful.

You could be the guy on the right hand side of this photo. He can't even turn around and tap chubby on the shoulder.

Someone once said about work place situations "If you don't like your circumstance take the initiative to change it. If you can't change it accept it or leave, but don't complain."

" Er, excuse me. Can I squeeze out? I'm leaving!"

This week in photos: time for a smile

Here's a scripture that was given to me when I was baptized in 1964.

"Contentment with godliness is great gain."

Happiness with our job is a major part of satisfaction with life.

Consider this picture and be happy with your work.

You may not be a travel agent operating from Hawaii but at least you can see the sunshine.
