Scramble to get to the top



You would be forgiven if you could not guess the location of this photo.

This was taken yesterday on Everest and represents a line-up of
 200 "wanna-be heroes" trudging upwards towards the 29,000 feet summit.


On their way, these do-or-die hopefuls will be passing the bodies of four climbers who succumbed at the weekend and who now lie stiffened by the side of the highway to heaven.

Makes you think doesn't it.

One of these dying mountaineers croaked out: "Please save me" to no avail as the line of zombies plodded past him.

Hardly a reenactment of the Good Samaritan.

But there again the supply of Good Samaritans up there is about as thin as the air in the Himalayas. It's the top at any cost even if it means using your frozen comrade as a stepping stone.

Sounds a bit like everyday life back here in civilization.
