The secrets of the Rich. RG. LeTourneau

Dear David, we could scarcely omit R.G. Tourneau in our series on the secrets of the wealthy.

R.G. was the founder of the Caterpillar Motor company. He was a creative genius with 35 patents to his name.
When asked the secret of his success he said:

 "God runs my business."

There were many proofs that God did indeed run R.G.'s business.

In the  book "Moving Mountains and Men" there is an account of how Le Tourneau was given the contract to move the earth for the building of the Hoover Dam. From the commencement of the project R.G. made it clear that none of his men would work on Sunday. The government was astonished and said that if that were the case there would be a penalty for every day worked over the deadline.

The job was finished three months ahead of schedule.

At the outset of founding his business R.G. vowed to give one tenth of his earnings to God: when he finally died of a stroke in 1969 he was donating 90% of his income to the Lord and was still a wealthy man.

He made this comment towards the end of his life.

"You can't out give God. I've tried all my life and failed."

The Secrets of the Rich

About twenty years ago the church where I was pastoring outgrew its premises. We decided that we would abandon the traditional type building and purchase a truck terminal that happened to be for sale.

The owner of the building eventually sold us the place on a handshake and five months later we moved in.

I got to know this man very well. He was a christian and a multi-millionaire.

By hard-work, honest dealing and true business sense he founded the Harkema Trucking company which, in it's day, was the largest in Canada.

One day Sid told me a story of how he transacted a sale with the owner of the leading trucking company in America, another  multi-millionaire.

This man told Sid that he drove to the meeting in Ohio in his Ford half ton truck. Then he asked Sid a question:

"When do whales get harpooned?  He supplied his own answer.
"When they get to the surface and start spouting off."

Sid never forgot that comment from one of the world's richest men.

To be around Sid was to be around a humble, unassuming individual who, for all his wealth, never spouted off, gave generously to God's work and who drove  A HALF TON TRUCK!

The Secrets of the Rich

Good Morning, David. This is the second in our series on the secrets of the wealthy.

Mayer Rothchild had five boys. He imbued in them the principles that had led him to become the richest man in Europe.

Mayer's five sons took over his merchant banking empire in Vienna, Rome, Paris, Frankfurt and England.

Nathan Rothchild worked out from London

He stood daily, leaning against "Nathan's Pillar" in the Stock Exchange.

After  the battle of Waterloo he made a billion dollars in ONE day.
It happened like this.
Rothchild had men posted on the battlefield with homing pigeons on June 16th, 1815.
When it was clear that the British had won the battle the pigeons were released to England with the news. The slower version came by horse and packet steamer.
Thus Rothchild was in possession of the news before anyone else.

He immediately began to sell off his BRITISH consuls.. This created  panic selling in the exchange because everybody thought the French had won. Two hours later the consuls were at half their original price, and Rothchild snatched up millions of them just before news of Wellington's victory arrived at the exchange. Thus he made a billion dollars in one day.

Some might call that deception, others smart thinking but I would call it the blessing of Abraham which has been passed down to God's covenant people through the ages.

The secrets of wealth

Dear David.
This week I'm doing a series on wealth in response to your request to investigate the secrets as to how wealth is built.

150 to 200 words a day will not get the job done but these morning thoughts may serve to take your mind in some new directions

Historically, the richest people on earth have been the Jews.
Even to this day Jews, comprising 8% of the American population, control 70% of the nation's wealth.
This should not be a cause for envy but a reason for your personal
investigation.

I recommend to you the book,"The Merchant Bankers", which gives an in depth examination of the Rothchild family.

The patriarch, Mayer Rothchild, founded the world's richest dynasty from a Frankfurt ghetto in the mid-18th century.

Notice, David, that although he was a daily attendant at the synagogue not once did he subscribe to the notion that

"We believe and get rich"

On the contrary, you will find as you read the book that business acumen, hard work, integrity in business dealings, moral probity and a rock solid family life were the foundations stones of his banking empire.

As you study the book do not look for a magic formula for becoming rich.

There is none.
