A letter from England. His name shall be called "GEORGE".

Well, the book-makers called it well: the name "George" was the three to one favourite for the newest heir to the British throne.

The little lad  already has a load to bear. Along with his lofty title he has the ponderous weight of three mighty names now conferred upon him.

HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS, GEORGE, LUIS, ALEXANDER......

I wonder how that sits with him as he lies snugly in his cradle tonight.
"GEORGE". The name of the patron saint of England. Noted for dragon slaying.
"LUIS" The name of the last viceroy of India, Lord Luis Mount-batten.
"ALEXANDER"   The name of the Macedonian general who conquered to world in the third century B.C. Alexander the Great.

Ah, not to worry, George. Sleep on little one and suck your thumb.Your mummy loves you and so does Jesus.
What more could a tiny mortal want in this great wide-world of seven billion people?

It's a Boy!

A Letter from England. It's a BOY.

The Duchess of Cambridge..... it's a BOY.

Here at last. No longer speculation, simply CELEBRATION.

(I wrote this post a week ago so I'll leave it intact.)

Upon his arrival the young prince will be instantly subject to a battery of cameras and flashlights;he will be the most photographed child in history.
As his imbibes his mother's milk his digestive system will be fortifying him to wear the ancient crown of England upon his head and, we must trust, that what is IN that head will equip him for the arduous task of reigning over the British Commonwealth.

On the asset side he has the example of his great grand-parents who have led the monarchy for over sixty years. On the debit side he has the burden of Charles Lack-brain and dizzy Camilla as grand-parents.

Nevertheless, he can take heart that his true grand-mother, Diane, was the Princess of the People and has left him a superb model of how to deport himself among his subjects.

His portrait will adorn billions of stamps and coins of the realm so let's hope that he shares his mother and father's good looks.
He will have the benefit of being brought up by these devoted parents and also the privilege of being raised in the knowledge of the gospel and the Christian faith of which he will bear the title:
"DEFENDER".

Begin to pray for him now that he has arrived on this benighted planet called EARTH.

It only remains to be announced what the name of the young prince will be. My guess is "JAMES". We have had two King James so far. They came from the House of Stewart. The first gave us the King James Bible, the other had to leave the country in a hurry.

Let's hope that this monarch out shines all the rest.

Jubilate.

Detroit, the beat goes on.

On Thursday last week the city of Detroit filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection. On Saturday a circuit judge ruled the move illegal and unconstitutional and demanded that the city begin moves to settle demands by the 20,000 creditors in line for reparation.
So what might be on the block? Just about everything owned by the municipality.

Included in the list is the Detroit zoo that houses a diverse menagerie, from polar bears to petting goats; also the Detroit Institute of Arts is home to a trove of national treasures estimated to be two billion dollars or more in value. The hospitals and university would also be in line for privatization and, of particular interest to Canada, would be the border tunnel.

This is a gem of a money-maker and Canada has already put in a bid for the 50% owned by the Detroit Tunnel Corporation.

Sad to see a city brought to this ugly and unseemly state.

A verse that comes to mind from Matthew chapter 24 reads:

"Where the corpse is, there shall the vultures be gathered"

That was Jesus speaking about the demise of the city of Jerusalem.

Nothing much has changed over two thousand years other than the names.
