Health and the chemical fix.

From January to March of this year I noted down the names of various drugs marketed by T.V. Commercials during the News Hour here in Canada. I stopped listing when I reached a hundred names.
Here are some of them: Spiriva (COPD), Stelara (Bladder calm) Humira (Joint pain) Dukarol (Loose bowels) Immodium  ( Constipation) Biotine (Dry mouth) Prevnar (Pneumonia) Xarelto (Stroke) Jublia (Toe-nail fungus) Namenda (anti-aging) there are another 90 names and aliments besides these listed.
Among the caveats are the following. This medication can cause: bloating, suicidal thoughts, temporary dizziness, blurring of the vision, swelling of the face and tongue, skin rash and itchiness, increased blood-pressure, palpitations of the heart, urinary and bladder problems, panic attacks and insomnia. If you experience any of these symptoms contact your doctor immediately.
I ask you!
Never once did these pill pedlars mention that life-style or poor nutrition might be the cause of the problem and that exercise and change in diet might be the solution. Absolutely not.
The pharmaceutical companies are not really committed to solving ANY health problems. They want to sell as many pills as possible and keep people popping them.
Bottom line: INCREASED PROFITS.
So if we don't look to the drug store for our health answers where do we look?
I will be attempting to answer that question as this series continues.

Jubilate ( that's a pill for joy)

Who wants to be sick?

Who wants to be sick? That's a good question. Surely, given the choice, everyone would opt for a healthy, pain-free, robust life rather than suffering from chronic sickness.
Then it behooves each one of us to give some SERIOUS thought as to what make up the components of vigorous health and to the things that would undermine it.
We have been speaking of the sugar-laden  diet of the Western World (the principal cause of obesity and other degenerative diseases) but, from my own experience and understanding, sugar- rich blood is responsible for a whole host of other serious ailments.
In time gone by the physicians would take a sample of the patient's urine. They wanted to test three things: the colour, the aroma and the taste.
Sounds gross? Believe me what they could detect from deeply-coloured, highly odored and over-sweet urine was far more gross!
Such effluent was the immediate indicator of trouble with the kidney and other organs. It is now understood that cancer cells swim and multiply happily in sugar-rich blood, which in turn produces an acidic P.H. in the human body.
In our pill-happy world nobody wants to talk about nutritional solutions, only easy-fix anti-biotics and the like.
In my next post we will be looking at secrets to sound health through life-style changes: changes that will ensure not simply length of years, but QUALITY to go with them.

Yours for a healthy future.
