The Treaty of Rome 60 Years Later.

There is a great party planned in Rome next week. The cause of the celebration is the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome in 1957.
What was that all about you may ask?
Well this was new alignment of seven of the nations that fought in the second world war; an agreement that, for the good of their peoples, they would form a common trading market in Europe. Instead of making war they would co-operate in trade and commerce and thus obtain lasting prosperity for all.
Thus, these nations unwittingly formed an alliance which now embraces nearly a billion people and fulfills the prophecy of Daniel spoken 2,500 years ago.
In the 2nd chapter of his book, Daniel interpreted a vision of King Nebuchadnezzar. The King had seen a massive statue with a golden head, silver chest, a brazen belly and iron legs. The feet of this man were made of iron mixed with clay.
The pair of legs doubtless represented the one thousand year reign of the Roman Empire: and the feet? The shortest part of the structure were of iron and clay, speaking of the strength and the weakness of the democratic voting system.
So much for the kingdoms of men for, at the end of the dream, a stone "cut without hands" hit this statue in the feet and the whole thing collapsed, turned to dust and blew away. Then the stone grew into the mountain of the everlasting Kingdom of God.
BRING IT ON!
We are at the point of impact, and the rumble that you can hear
(even when the champagne corks are popping in Rome) is the approach of God's bowling ball.

Don't Put All Your Eggs in One Basket.

People like you and me, ordinary people I'm talking about, simply have to roll our eyes in disbelief.
This morning in Germany, the custodians of a Berlin museum clocked in for work and found that their prize exhibition had disappeared.
This centrepiece of their display happened to be a 220 lb gold coin, made in Canada, stamped with the queen's head and worth a cool  $4,000,000:00.
The most expensive (and heaviest) coin in the world had just vanished overnight.
How did it happen? Had the bad fairies been at work? Probably not, for a ladder was found outside the museum wall, a possible clue that it was not the German Trolls that had done the heist but more earthly figures.
What is more troubling to the museum authorities is how their prize display could have been stolen, when there was an array of laser beams, alarms and fail safe devices guarding the golden coin.
No doubt the mystery will be soon explained but, in the meantime, remember the age old words of Jesus:
"Store not up your treasure on earth where moth or rust decays and where thieves break in and steal. But lay up treasure in Heaven where your reward shall be eternal."
220lbs weight in gold! However did they get it out of the back window?
