When the Wind of God Blows.

Psalm 148 is worthy of our consideration this morning.
The Unites States and the Caribbean basin are totting up the bill after been battered to pieces by consecutive hurricanes: it is likely to reach half a trillion dollars. Oh my!
But listen to the Word of God.
"Praise Him ye waters that be above the Heavens. Praise the Lord from the earth, ye dragons and all deeps: fire and hail; snow and mists; stormy winds fulfilling His Word."
Irma, Katia, Harvey, Jose...... these hurricanes were not desperados that somehow escaped from God's prison house. All four of these ladies and gentlemen were under His command, from their quiet conception in Africa, in their evolution in the Atlantic Ocean to their fury and might when they reached the Western Hemisphere. All were steered and directed by God who, the Bible says: "Holds the winds in His fists".
I, for one, don't intend to argue that point, having escaped the wrath of a tornado in my own city of Barrie in 1985.
But when the "Dragons of the deeps" are let loose upon us what message do they bring?
Solomon in his wisdom three thousand years ago spoke words to this effect:
"O God, when You cease to send the rains in their season and blight and plague visit Your people and we are delivered into the Hands of our enemies, cause us O God to come to your Holy Temple and look unto You in repentance and cry aloud for Your mercy. In such a day look down from Your Holy Hill and hear our prayer O Lord."
Time to go back to church folks and seek the Face of God lest His winds begin to blow in your neighbourhood.

LET'S ALL SMOKE-UP TOGETHER.

It was the most predictable move yet by the far-left outfit in Ottawa.
Today the Liberal government announced the opening of forty or fifty store-front premises across Canada for the sale of Marijuana (commonly known as dope, pot, weed, ganja or "Sweet Mary-Jane").
But in government parlance the stuff is called Recreational Marijuana.
Sort of sounds better doesn't it.
Abraham Lincoln once asked some senators what a pig with a straight tail and a bow round its neck was called. When they said they didn't know he told them it was still pig, no matter how it was dressed up.
Think about it folks. This garbage called Marijuana, illegal up to two years ago, is now being hocked by the government, first as a 'medicinal' herb and now as a legitimate form of recreational pleasure. But the stuff is still GARBAGE even when it is dressed up and brightly packaged in a government store window.
What's it all about?  MONEY of course.
Untold millions of dollars were being hauled in by dope dealers every year so the Trudeau liberals decided they would do the dealing for themselves and put the money in their own pockets.
Cynical? Unconscionable? Heartless? Egregiously wicked?  All of those things but, let's face it folks, life IS all about MONEY even if we have to rape our youngest generation to make it.

First HARVEY and now IRMA.

I heard the story of two business men who had retired to Florida. One asked the other where he had lived before he retired. He replied "I had a business in Chicago and it was burned out so I took the insurance money and came down here. What about you?" The other man replied "I had a business in Atlanta and it got flooded out so I took the insurance and retired" The first guy then asked "How did you start a flood?"
Good question. While men can start fires large and small only God has the power to send floods, or shake the earth with other natural disasters like eruptions and earthquakes.
What happened in Houston, which received over THREE FEET of rain in three days, and the disaster that is now being braced for in Florida when hurricane Irma arrives, are termed by the insurance companies "ACTS OF GOD".
This term is also an exclusion clause for them paying out money for events that they claim could not be predicted or planned for.
A cute little phrase isn't it? AN ACT OF GOD.
But in days when mankind is out to combat climate change all by his own efforts and ingenuity it is sobering to think that, in the face of a category five hurricane, we are all found to be tiny, helpless earthlings dependent upon the Lord for His overshadowing and protection.
Rather than shaking a fist at Heaven it behoves us to praise God for His deliverances and thank Him for His daily mercies lest He choose to remove them.

North Korea Round Three.

Another massive blast in North Korea today. This time a hydrogen bomb with 20 times the power of the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima was detonated under ground near the Chinese border.
Not only were the shock waves felt in Japan and neighbouring countries, but shock waves of anger and tension reverberated around the entire world.
Emergency meetings have been scheduled for Tuesday at the United Nations while the U.S. Defence department has gone into a huddle over the weekend.
General Matthis spoke today of a "massive military response" if America or any of its allies come under threat from Pyong Yang.
Can this simply be sabre rattling on the part of the West?
Far from it. If North Korea does not de-escalate their threats and pull back from the brink that they have taken civilization to, expect the General to make good on his words.
If you have never employed prayer in your personal life, now is the time to do so. If you have never thought beyond this present world to the world to come, now is the time to do so.
A full generation after August 6th 1945 the world stands once again under the shadow of the mushroom cloud!
