The "Victoria' Series

Probably my favourite period of British history is the Victorian Era.
Numerous of my relatives were born at the end of the 19th century and I still remember their stories. It was a great time to live when the British Empire was at the zenith of its power and when Edward Elgar quite rightly penned the words "Land of Hope and Glory Mother of the Free."
You can imagine therefore, that Pauline and I were looking forward to the BBC series "VICTORIA". We watched the first episodes with satisfaction and a few weeks ago began season 2.
Suddenly this wholesome, historical documentary was used to infuse a pair of prominent characters ( Lord Alfred Paget and Edward Drummond) in a homo-sexual relationship.
This had absolutely no connection to the truth since Lord Alfred Paget was a happily married man with 14 children and Edward Drummond, Parliamentary secretary, was twenty years his senior and assassinated before ever the two had built even a political partnership.
How dare this Daisy Goodwin, the director of this historical series do something that is so patently false. She taints the name of the famous Paget family and also the worthy Edward Drummond a distinguished public servant. She should be ashamed.
Next week I will be watching the final episode with a channel changer in my hand!
Jubilate.
Ian
