My friend, John Terstege, was excited the other day when I called round. His wife Alice cuts my hair once every two weeks and John is sometimes there to join the conversation. This time he showed me the new title of a book on seeds.(The triumph of seeds. Thor Hansen) The author, a molecular biologist, was struggling to make the imponderable simple to the lay man's mind. This is what he came up with by way of a definition of a seed:
"A SEED IS A BABY PLANT IN A BOX WITH IT'S PACKED LUNCH ".
Marvellous.
I thought about that quotation especially at the weekend, being Resurrection Sunday.
Jesus said concerning His crucifixion :
"EXCEPT A GRAIN OF WHEAT FALL INTO THE GROUND AND DIE, IT ABIDES ALONE,BUT IF IT DIE IT WILL BRING FORTH MUCH FRUIT.
Jubilate.
