Five dollars can bring a lot of happiness.
It did last week when I was meeting with a friend in a coffee shop.
As I was paying for our drinks, on an impulse I turned round and asked the lady behind me what she was ordering. Startled, she mentioned something about a panini and a coffee. I said to the counter girl: "Put that on my bill."
About three minutes later the lady came over to our table with her wrapped up sandwich and said with tears in her eyes:
"Tonight I'm going to a make funeral arrangements for my friend who has died. I've had a real bad day and what you did for me tonight was a wonderful boost to my heart. Thank you."
I later thought:
"That was five dollars well spent."
